Water Well Sampling Services

Water sampling services are commonly performed in conjunction with geophysical well logging, allowing samples to be collected at specific depths or zones identified during the logging program. SWS provides water sampling, biological and scale sampling, and formation water sampling as part of a comprehensive well evaluation.

Sampling Techniques

SWS collects water and material samples at known depths, most often alongside a logging program. Select a technique to see what it measures, what it tells you, and when it is used.

Water Sampling at Depth

Samples are collected from discrete depths in the well, typically at zones flagged during a logging program, so each result corresponds to a known interval instead of a blended column.

What it tells you

Water chemistry and quality at a specific depth.

When to use it

When zone-specific data is needed for contamination assessment, well design, or compliance.

Biological Sampling

Samples are collected and handled to preserve bacteria and other microorganisms for laboratory analysis, including the iron and sulfate-reducing bacteria that drive well fouling.

What it tells you

The presence and type of biological activity affecting the well.

When to use it

To diagnose biofouling, odor, or plugging, and to plan disinfection or rehabilitation.

Scale & Incrustation Sampling

Physical scale, mineral incrustation, and deposits are collected from the well or equipment for compositional analysis.

What it tells you

The mineral makeup of scale building up in the well.

When to use it

To identify the cause of reduced yield or screen plugging and choose the right treatment.

Formation Water Sampling

Water is sampled at a selected depth or targeted aquifer interval to provide depth-specific water-quality information.

What it tells you

Water chemistry and quality associated with the targeted depth or interval.

When to use it

For resource evaluation, baseline monitoring, and geochemical studies.

Sampling With a Logging Program

Sampling is coordinated with geophysical logging so intervals are chosen from real-time log data and every depth is documented precisely.

What it tells you

Sample results tied directly to logged formation and flow data.

When to use it

On any project where water quality needs to be correlated with formation properties.
