Cased Hole Logging Services

Cased hole logging is performed after casing and screen have been installed in a well. SWS runs a range of cased hole tools to assess well performance, locate flow zones, evaluate cement integrity, and inspect casing condition — on both new completions and existing production wells.

Tools & Techniques

The Cased Hole Suite

Cased-hole logging is run after casing and screen are installed. Each tool reads a different aspect of the completed well — select one to see what it measures, what it tells you, and when it is used.

Spinner (Flowmeter) Survey

A spinner flowmeter measures the velocity of water moving inside the cased well as the tool passes through the screened intervals. Comparing measurements at depth helps identify producing or receiving zones and determine their relative contribution to total well flow.

What it tells you

Which screened zones are actually producing water, and their relative contribution to total flow.

When to use it

On production and monitoring wells to diagnose yield, target rehabilitation, or design pumping — run under pumping and ambient conditions.

Discrete-Depth Water Sampling

Samples are collected from specific depths in the cased well, targeting the producing zones identified during a spinner or logging run so lab results tie directly to a known interval.

What it tells you

Water chemistry and quality at a specific, known depth rather than a blended sample.

When to use it

Alongside spinner surveys and when you need zone-specific water quality for contamination assessment, blending studies, or regulatory sampling.

Fluid Resistivity & Temperature

These logs record the electrical resistivity and temperature of the water column inside the casing from top to bottom. Shifts in either reading can indicate locations where fluid movement or changes in water characteristics occur.

What it tells you

Changes in the fluid column that can help identify potential inflow zones and differences in fluid characteristics with depth.

When to use it

To locate cross-flow, identify poor-quality inflow, and support spinner data on cased wells.

Cement Bond Log (CBL)

A cement bond log uses acoustic measurements to evaluate cement bonding and the quality of the cement seal behind the casing. A strong bond returns a weak casing signal; a poor bond returns a strong one.

What it tells you

The quality and continuity of the cement seal behind the casing.

When to use it

To verify zonal isolation and confirm the annular seal after casing and cementing.

Video Survey

A downhole camera provides a direct visual record of the inside of the cased well — casing joints, screen, perforations, and the water column.

What it tells you

The physical condition of casing and screen, plus any obstructions, breaks, or encrustation.

When to use it

For troubleshooting, pre- and post-rehabilitation inspection, and documenting well condition — surveys can be repeated as often as a well needs.
